More on podcast!

Hi everybody,

Inspired by Veronica's link I decided to share an example that will give you an idea of what podcasting is and how you can use it with language students. Go to the following link:

http://splendidspeaking.podomatic.com/player/web/2006-10-26T05_07_12-07_00

This is taken from a podcast called "splendid speaking" and features two students having a conversation and a teacher giving tips on how to do it. Think of other ways podcasting can be used in ELT classes.

  1. This was a particularly interesting Podcast for me - because I am interested in one day studying and learning some Portuguese. I have also visited both Brazil and Portugal, once each.

Another twist on this type of Podcast, would be to have one Native Speaker of English conversing with an EFL student in another country, or better yet, with various EFL Students in various countries.

Perhaps one purpose of such a Podcast would be to see which EFL Students have the easiest time understanding the Native English Speaker, and vice-verse - which EFL Students are most easily understood by a Native English Speaker.

Clearly though, this Pod experiment will need to compensate for/correct for variables such as the EFL Students' level of proficiency in English. I.e. you need to invite EFL Students with essentially the same level of English proficiency.

Hence you are testing to see which foreign accents are most easily understood: English <--> Foreign.

  2. Way to go Tom! I loved your idea. We could even try that out using students from different cities in Colombia. It is said that people from certain areas of the country find English learning more difficult than others. Great idea! Thanks for sharing.
