Hi everybody,
I'm pretty sure you are enjoying your week off. I hope you have devoted some time to work on your assignments. I took your ideas on the categories you can include for the assessment form and make a nice wordle (It is a graphic representation of words). I hope you can use it to work on your form.
Here is the link to access it:

ReplyDeleteThere certainly are many criteria by which to assess a coursebook/textbook.
ReplyDeleteThe primary unique criteria which I would like to use to assess an EFL textbook, is whether or not the book has an appropriate bilingual format or not. I believe that an appropriate, measured, well-thought-out use of the Students' L1 (Spanish in Colombia) offers substantial learning advantages to an English-only classroom.
The author of our own coursebook, Jeremy Harmer, even agrees with me to a substantial degree in Chapter 7. However L1 usage in the L2 classroom appears to be out of vogue/favor in the 21st century.

Hi Tom,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you wrote this comment. Conversations around topics like this one enrich our craft. Using L1 in the EFL classroom will always be a controversial issue indeed.
I totally agree with you to a substantial degree but I do think there are more advantages in using only English since the very beginning of students' learning process.
I understand your research project addresses this topic, doesn't it?. I can't wait to take a look at your findings.
Tks a lot.
